Sub-Zero Wine Cooler Temperature Fluctuating
Wine Cooler Temperature Fluctuating is usually one of a small number of specific, repairable causes — here's what to check and when it's worth calling a professional.
Common Causes
A condenser rated for a room it is not in
Ambient here is the local constant, and a unit in a garage in July is a different machine from the same unit indoors — long run times and high discharge temperatures are load, not defect.
Dirty or blocked condenser coils
The compressor overheats compensating for restricted airflow and eventually shuts itself down as a protective measure.
A worn or torn door gasket
Lets a steady trickle of warm, humid air into the cabinet that the compressor can never fully counteract.
Local conditions that matter here
Ambient heat is the local constant. A condenser rated for a conditioned room is a different machine in a garage here in July, and the failures that follow — long run times, high discharge temperatures, early compressor wear — are load rather than defect. Coil cleanliness matters more here than almost anywhere.
